What is a well woman check?
A well woman check is a comprehensive health assessment for women covering cardiovascular risk, hormonal balance, organ function, and gynaecological health through blood tests, physical examination, and diagnostic imaging. It is designed to catch conditions early, from thyroid dysfunction and anaemia to ovarian cysts and hormonal imbalances, across every life stage.
Unlike a standard GP appointment, a well woman check gives your doctor time to review your full history, run a broad panel of tests, and discuss findings properly. Depending on the tier, your appointment runs from 45 minutes to 4 hours.
Why women book this
The same reasons come up again and again.
You have been to your GP about fatigue, weight changes, or mood shifts and been told it is stress, or "just your age." You have asked about perimenopause and been offered antidepressants instead of a hormone panel. You have been referred for a gynaecology appointment with a 4-6 month wait. Or you have simply never had a proper health check and want one done thoroughly.
Hormonal changes have real, measurable markers. The question is whether anyone has actually tested them.
Four packages, clearly priced
All packages are based on the Medical Express Clinic Full Body MOT framework, with female-specific tests built in. Prices are all-inclusive. No hidden consultation fees.
Essential
£495
45–60 minutes
The foundation. A proper check of the fundamentals.
Full GP consultation and physical examination. Comprehensive blood panel covering 30+ markers: full blood count, kidney and liver function, full lipid profile, glucose, HbA1c, and thyroid function. 12-lead ECG. Body composition analysis measuring visceral fat, skeletal muscle mass, and body water distribution.
Best for: Women under 35 with no specific concerns, first-time screeners, or annual monitoring.
BookAdvanced
£999
60–90 minutes
Everything in Essential, plus imaging, lung function, and a full female hormone profile.
Adds chest X-ray, spirometry, advanced thyroid panel (T3, antibodies), vitamins B12 and D, and a comprehensive hormone panel: LH, FSH, prolactin, oestradiol, testosterone, SHBG, and Free Androgen Index.
This is the full hormonal picture, not just FSH and LH (which is what most GPs check). SHBG and Free Androgen Index are useful for investigating acne, hair thinning, weight distribution changes, or PCOS-related concerns. Oestradiol alongside FSH gives a much clearer view of where you are hormonally than either marker alone.
This tier also includes 1 year of private health coverage: four GP follow-up appointments (worth £600). Use them for reviewing results, monitoring symptoms, or share with immediate family.
For women who are still having periods, the hormone panel is most informative when timed to days 2-5 of your cycle. Let us know when you book and we will schedule accordingly.
Best for: Women over 35, anyone experiencing hormonal symptoms, or those who want more than a basic screen.
BookElite
£2,095
2–3 hours
Everything in Advanced, plus Consultant Gynaecologist review, breast and pelvic imaging, tumour markers, and cervical screening. This is our most popular well woman package.
This tier brings in Mr Hikmat Naoum, Consultant Gynaecologist (MRCOG), for a dedicated consultation and imaging alongside your GP assessment.
Gynaecology and imaging: transvaginal and abdominal pelvic ultrasound, mammogram, and cervical smear. The ultrasound assesses the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding structures. It can identify fibroids, cysts, polyps, and endometrial changes that blood tests alone will not pick up.
Blood work adds CA-125 tumour marker (ovarian screening) and an advanced micronutrient panel (magnesium, selenium, zinc). CA-125 is a useful marker but can be elevated by non-cancerous conditions including endometriosis, fibroids, and menstruation, which is why we combine it with ultrasound imaging for proper clinical context.
DEXA bone density scanning is available when clinically indicated. Your doctor or gynaecologist will recommend this if appropriate based on your menopause status, family history, or other risk factors.
Best for: Women over 40, family history of breast or ovarian cancer, gynaecological symptoms, or a thorough screen in one visit.
BookUltimate
£3,350
3–4 hours (MRI scheduled separately)
The most thorough screening we offer. Full body MRI covers brain, neck, chest (heart and lungs), abdomen, pelvis, and full spine. This replaces the standard chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound with detailed cross-sectional imaging, though transvaginal ultrasound is retained alongside MRI for optimal pelvic assessment.
Includes Consultant Gynaecologist review with Mr Hikmat Naoum, cervical smear, and mammogram. Blood work expands to HE4, CA-125, and ROMA scoring (the most advanced ovarian screening panel currently available), gluten sensitivity profiling, advanced iron studies, complete micronutrient panel, full hormone mapping, and genetic cancer markers.
Best for: Women who want the most thorough screen possible or a detailed baseline with significant family history of cancer.

What if something is found?
Most screening patients receive reassuring results. That is exactly what the screening is for.
When findings do arise, the most common are vitamin deficiencies (corrected with supplementation), borderline cholesterol or thyroid levels (managed with lifestyle changes or medication), ovarian cysts (often benign, monitored with follow-up ultrasound), or hormonal imbalances (treated with appropriate intervention). These are straightforward to manage when identified early.
If something more significant is detected, an abnormal mammogram, a concerning ultrasound result, or an unexpected blood marker, specialist referrals are made directly, usually within 48 hours, to leading London consultants. Your care is coordinated from our end.
NHS vs private well woman screening
The NHS does not offer a well woman check as a single package. Instead, cervical screening is offered every 3-5 years from age 25, breast screening every 3 years from age 50, and NHS Health Checks every 5 years from age 40 (cardiovascular risk only). Hormone testing through a GP is typically limited to FSH and LH.
| NHS | Gynae Clinic | |
|---|---|---|
| Cervical screening | Every 3-5 years, age 25+ | Included in Elite and Ultimate, any age |
| Breast screening | Every 3 years, age 50-70 only | Mammogram in Elite and Ultimate, any age |
| Hormone panel | FSH and LH only, if GP agrees | Full 7-marker female hormone profile (Advanced+) |
| Pelvic ultrasound | Referral required, weeks-months wait | Same-day, included in Elite and Ultimate |
| Turnaround | Weeks to months | 1-4 days |
| Appointment length | 10-15 minutes | 45 minutes to 4 hours |

This is not a criticism of the NHS. These are the structural constraints of a system running at capacity. If you want a more thorough assessment done sooner, a private well woman check fills that gap.
Who is it for?
A well woman check is appropriate at any age. The right tier depends on your stage of life and concerns.
Under 35, no specific symptoms: The Essential (£495) gives you a solid baseline of cardiovascular, metabolic, and thyroid markers.
Over 35, or experiencing hormonal symptoms: The Advanced (£999) adds the full hormone profile. If you are wondering whether you are perimenopausal, this is the panel that gives you a clear answer rather than guesswork.
Over 40, family history, or gynaecological concerns: The Elite (£2,095) adds Consultant Gynaecologist review, pelvic ultrasound, mammogram, and cervical smear. If you have not had a mammogram before age 50, the NHS will not offer you one unless you are symptomatic. We will.
Want the most thorough screen possible: The Ultimate (£3,350) adds full body MRI and the most advanced ovarian screening panel available.
